Art Opening: John Chervinsky Exhibit
Announcing with pleasure the newest show to hang at Evie Salon Studio, the “John Chervinsky Exhibit” showcasing images from each of John’s photographic series: Landscapes and Portraits, Experiment in Perspective, and Studio Physics.
John Chervinsky was a self-taught photographer, who used the photographic image as a way to combine his love of art and science. John drew inspiration from a number of sources, not the least of which were Dutch still life painting, the history of art and technology, and current events. Above all, John was fascinated by the passage of time, which is explored in each of his photographic series.
In Landscapes and Portraits, John elevated the lowly yam to the level of artistic muse, mapping its shape and texture into a timeless, surreal geography. In Experiment in Perspective, John exploited our inherent sense of horizon to create rich are black & white images that combine physical objects, chalk markings and (often illusory) optics. Studio Physics stages a collaboration of sorts between John, the objects being photographed, an unknown painter in China, and elapsed time.
We hope to see you at the opening on July 19th 7-9pm at the salon!
